Timur Harvest Season: Quality, Community, and Sustainability in Every Berry

Harvest Timeline

As the crisp autumn air sweeps through the hills of Nepal, communities prepare for the much-anticipated Timur harvest.

The harvest season for Timur begins in September and extends into November. At higher altitudes, the cooler climate and well-defined seasons create ideal growing conditions, enhancing Timur’s aroma and overall quality.

Ensuring Quality at the Source

At aQysta, our focus is on ensuring that only ripe, premium-quality Timur reaches the market. This starts right in the field:

  • Farmer Training: We guide farmers on identifying the optimum maturity stage—when berries turn reddish brown and the pericarp begins to burst.

  • Selective Picking: Only fully matured berries are harvested, while unripe ones are left to ripen naturally.

  • Clean Harvesting Practices: Farmers use clean tools, gloves, and uncontaminated collection materials to avoid impurities.

Beyond harvest techniques, we conduct training on Organic Certification, educating farmers on maintaining buffer zones, adhering to organic documentation, and preventing chemical contamination from neighboring crops. Post-harvest, farmers receive hands-on training in hygienic drying, sorting, and safe storage—preserving both quality and organic integrity.

“Our focus has been on helping farmers understand the right organic practices, harvest time, and safe post-harvest handling. With regular field visits and training, we’ve seen a clear improvement in the quality of Timur and farmer awareness.”

Community Involvement and Impact

Timur production is a deeply community-driven effort, with women playing a central role. From hand-picking ripe berries to cleaning, drying, and sorting, their precision and traditional knowledge are vital in meeting organic standards. Many farmers work within cooperatives, fostering collaboration, shared learning, and fair economic opportunities.

“Since working with aQysta, I have learned better farming practices and how to grow Timur organically. This has improved the quality of my harvest and increased my income significantly. I feel more confident and hopeful for the future.”
– Shanta Ram Budha, Timur Grower
