TEAM AND ROLE OVERVIEW

The Farmer Onboarding Officer is being recruited, in a full-time position, to be a part of aQysta Malawi’s team.

The Farmer Onboarding Officer will work to onboard farmers, farmer’s club and farmer cooperatives in its supply chain to be connected to domestic and export markets.

As such, the Farmer Onboarding Officer will be at the heart of aQysta’s mission of empowering small holder farmers an uplifting their livelihood.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifying farmer clusters growing aQysta’s focus crops.

  • On-boarding farmers and farmer groups by conducting physical meetings, explaining about company’s values and mission, and business proposals with them and other relevant stakeholders

  • Negotiating the prices and purchase terms with the farmers to create a win-win situation for farmers as well as aQysta.

  • Carrying out expectation management and intermittent monitoring of farmers/groups of already on boarded farmers.

  • Establishing partnerships with government and non-government organizations working with smallholder farmers, specially working in the field of groundnuts, maize, soya, and fruits.

  • Ensuring smooth supply of agricultural products/crops from farmers to meet the market demand generated by Agri-Sales and Marketing team.

  • Assisting in the quality check of the crops to be procured and taking necessary actions in terms of coordination between farmers and Operations Manager.

BACKGROUND AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience in working closely with farmers/farmers groups/ cooperatives in the field of procurement of harvest.

  • Having practical experience in relationship management and building functional alliance with local farmers/groups.

  • Having a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/Agronomy, BBS/ BBA with strong work experience will be a plus.

  • Able to plan work, structured way of working and capable of organizing the farmer’s team and oneself.

  • Excellent communication skills to communicate with diverse stakeholders ranging from farmers, government officials, business partners and international colleagues.

  • Strong presentation skills (verbal, interactive and with preparing slides etc.)

  • Commendable negotiation skills.

  • Self-driven and proactive in work-approach

  • Trustworthy and honest

  • Willingness to travel within Malawi to build relationships with the local farmer communities
