TEAM AND ROLE OVERVIEW

The Organic Certification Officer is a full-time position within aQysta Malawi’s agricultural team. This role focuses on expanding and supporting a network of organically certified farmers, guiding them through the certification process, and ensuring adherence to organic farming practices and regulations.

The Organic Certification Officer will work closely with farmers, cooperatives, and aQysta’s organic agriculture team to implement sustainable farming practices, manage certifications, and contribute to the company’s mission of empowering smallholder farmers through organic agriculture.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Increasing the Organically certified farmers network of aQysta Malawi

  • Identification of new potential land to be used for Organic farming

  • Onboarding of farmers interesting in organic certified farming

  • Guiding farmers and cooperatives during the organic certification process

  • Implementation of Organic farming practices and regulation at farm or cooperative level through the Internal Control System

  • Training and supervision of farmers and farmer cooperatives

  • Record keeping of mandatory registrations

  • Supervising and arranging audits

  • Sourcing of Organic certified inputs

  • Working hand in hand with aQysta's organic agriculture team

  • Strong administrative skills (record keeping, filing, compliance documentation)

  • Weekly reporting

BACKGROUND AND SKILLS

  • Hands-on, adaptable, and flexible.

  • Skilled at building structures and systems.

  • Resilient under pressure.

  • Willingness to travel throughout Malawi.

  • Strong communication skills at both farmer and stakeholder levels.

  • Fluency in English and Chichewa.

Academic Background

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or a related field.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a related field.

  • Familiarity with organic certification requirements, processes, and reporting.
