TEAM AND ROLE OVERVIEW

The Organic Certification & Project Coordinator is a full-time position within aQysta Malawi’s agricultural team. This role focuses on expanding and supporting a network of organically certified farmers, guiding them through the certification process, and ensuring adherence to organic farming practices and regulations.

The Organic Certification & Project Coordinator will work closely with farmers, cooperatives, and aQysta’s organic agriculture team to implement sustainable farming practices, manage certifications, and contribute to the company’s mission of empowering smallholder farmers through organic agriculture.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and manage internal and external organic audit, liaising with the certification bodies, auditors, regulatory stakeholders and internal departments

  • Ensure effective compliance management, including documentation systems, certification renewals, traceability records, and audit preparedness.

  • Oversee the onboarding and integration of farmers, cooperatives, and partner organizations into the organic certification program.

  • Provide leadership and technical guidance on EU Organic Regulations, certification requirements, and compliance systems across all operational areas.

  • Manage internal audits and improvements on the Internal Control System (ICS) of associated farmer groups to ensure consistent compliance with EU organic standards

  • Lead capacity-building initiatives by developing training programs and supervising field teams, lead farmers, and cooperatives.

  • Prepare and present periodic operational, compliance, and impact reports to senior management and stakeholders.

BACKGROUND AND SKILLS

  • Strong team player.

  • In-depth knowledge of EU organic certification processes.

  • Ability to network and promote organic farming.

  • Hands-on, adaptable, and flexible.

  • Skilled at building structures and systems.

  • Resilient under pressure.

  • Willingness to travel throughout Malawi.

  • Strong communication skills at both farmer and stakeholder levels.

  • Fluency in English and Chichewa.

  • Good attention-to-detail and analytical skill for documentation

Academic Background

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in agriculture or a related field.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in the field of Organic certification requirements, processes, and reporting, is a must.
